Vigan City in Ilocos Sur is known for its heritage streets, Spanish colonial houses, and its garlic-infused local longganisa, a type of pork sausage with a strong savory and sour taste. The annual Longganisa Festival honors this local product, which helps drive tourism and local income. The festival happens together with the city fiesta each January, centering Vigan’s identity on food, culture, and community pride.

The festival mixes food and culture with events open to residents and visitors. Street dance contests, cookoffs, and longganisa sampling are main attractions. City chefs and students compete in recipe challenges to broaden the use of longganisa beyond traditional breakfast fare. These contests create new menu ideas and give young cooks a platform to show skills.

In 2026 the Longganisa Festival was part of a 10-day Vigan City Fiesta. Organizers held an annual cookfest encouraging creative dishes using local sausage. Teams from schools and hotels presented menus ranging from soups and snacks to a longganisa dessert pie. The events spotlight the product’s flexibility and help local tourism by attracting food fans and travelers.

Also in 2026 the city included related events to honor agriculture. Vigan held Agriculture Day during the festival, with an agri-float parade, trade fair featuring Vigan longganisa and local produce, and awards for farming communities. The city gave support to fishers and farmers with feed and fishing equipment. These linked activities highlight the role of agriculture in sustaining the local food that the festival celebrates.
